Twenty Flight Rockers was formed in London in 1983 by Gary Twinn, former singer/frontman of the Australian band Supernaut, and drummer Mark Laff, recently from punk group Generation X. Together they recruited lead guitarist Ian McKean, and bass player Jeff D. Vine.
Drawing inspiration from 1950's Rock & Roll artists Eddie Cochran, Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent, Vince Taylor and Johnny Kidd, the new band named itself after Cochran’s Twenty Flight Rock, adopted a UK rocker style, and created blistering modern rock & roll with post-punk attitude.
Twenty Flight Rockers played countless gigs in and around London, gaining a dedicated and hip following, and were subsequently invited to play BBC's Janice Long show, the first live-to-air music broadcast on BBC Radio since the Beatles.
In 1985 TFR released the single "Tower Block Rock" on ABC Records (ranked #31 for Best Single of the year) entering the indie chart at #13. In 1986 "Johnny 7" was released with WEA,
"Black Leather Jacket" was pressed as a promo single but the band had already been broken apart and has remained so……….. until now.
